About Heyni Solera & Rodrigo Avalos
Praised for her “soulful bandoneón” (Washington Classical Review), Heyni Solera is a sought after bandoneonist in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Solera has enjoyed a career in the US and abroad playing with performances in Argentina, Canada and Australia collaborating with prominent musicians in the tango music scene. Heyni regularly performs with the Da Capo Tango Orchestra, which focuses on playing danceable tangos and is part of the cello/bandoneon duo, Arco & Aire, with cellist Maxfield Wollam-Fisher. She is also the bandoneonist of Solidaridad Tango Orquesta which focuses on female tango musicians in a typically male dominated genre. As a scholar, she received her Master of Music degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has developed the lectures A GPS for Tango Listening: What Makes Tango a Tango? and Today’s Woman in Tango: Carving Out Spaces amongst others. The bandoneon has long been considered the iconic instrument of tango, but its origins began very far from Argentina. Created in Germany to replace the organ in remote churches, the bandoneon was intended to be played in a variety of genres. Bandoneonists Heyni Solera and Rodrigo Avalos explore the other possibilities of this beautiful instrument through their selected arrangements of Bach’s "Well-Tempered Clavier" and their own compositions that pay homage to this master of baroque music. They will also perform tango duos that highlight the other capabilities of this versatile instrument. This will be an evening you won't forget! Their new album, "Bach en Bandoneon," is now available! You can listen to it on Spotify or YouTube. |
About Villarreal Crom
Juan and Patricio met on stage at the Milonga del Moran in 2010 in Buenos Aires. Patricio had attended to play with his quintet "Bad Known" and Juan went to sing as a guest with Hernán "Cucuza" Castiello. A short time later they met again at the Club Atlético Fernández Fierro and decided to meet with the excuse of rehearsing some tangos, especially the tango "Marión" with which Patricio was very enthusiastic.
From that meeting the Villarreal Crom Duo was born and began a long journey performing at festivals, milongas and venues in Buenos Aires and different countries in South America and Europe, sharing stages with great musicians and dancers such as Chino Laborde & Dipi Kvitko, Osvaldo Peredo, Pablo Rodriguez & Corina Herrera, Rodrigo Fonti & Majo Martirena, Hernán "Cucuza" Castiello and others. Their latest album, "D'Arienzo En Guitarras," featuring danceable songs by Juan D'Arienzo arranged for two guitars, is out now! CLICK HERE to listen to it, as well as all of their excellent previous albums! |
About "Emily And"

I am thrilled to announce that our Friday evening concert now has an opening act - "Emily And!" Hopewell alumna Emily Ann McKelvey is back from Buenos Aires and will be performing a few songs at 8 PM at The Giddy Goat before the Argentine folklore concert!!
Emily Ann McKelvey, creator of the increasingly collaborative and interdisciplinary project “Emily And,” was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, and currently resides in Buenos Aires. Throughout her five years in Argentina she has been extremely active in the underground music scene, playing and organizing hundreds of solo shows in and around the city, as well as traveling to other provinces including Santa Fe, Córdoba, and Neuquén.
Author of over 300 bilingual songs, Emily And has been releasing music since 2013. Her most recent album, Spilling the Porotos, was released in December 2021, and is her first album in the pop genre. With it came her first music video, produced in collaboration with the independent feminist audiovisual production cooperative Pulpa Riot. In April 2022, the artist performed the album live with a 7-person band in a sold-out show in Buenos Aires, before heading out to play a series of acoustic shows in less-visited neighborhoods around the city. She is currently organizing a tour with the band that will include stops in several other provinces of Argentina.
Founder of the independent record label “La Manija Discos,” Emily Ann also produces albums of fellow emerging artists, as well as DIY music events, with an emphasis on gender equality and building connections among diverse neighborhoods within the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. This June 17th, Emily Ann will return to her hometown for the first time in 4 years, and is looking forward to sharing her songs alongside fellow Argentine artists.
